International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD)

What is IDPWD?

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), held on December 3 each year, is a global United Nations event dedicated to celebrating the achievements and contributions of people with disability.

IDPwD highlights the importance of fostering an inclusive community that recognises and celebrates diverse abilities. It aims to enhance public awareness, understanding and acceptance, while breaking down physical, technical and attitudinal barriers.

Bellingen Shire Council acknowledges and celebrates IDPwD and hosts the Ian J. Cooper Access & Inclusion Awards every two years in line with its commitment under the Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026. The Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) supports the vision of creating an accessible and inclusive community where people with disability can participate equally in community life.
