Active Transport
The Bellingen, Dorrigo and Urunga townships are not very big, making them ideal for walking and cycling. Did you know it is:
- less than 500m to walk from the Bellingen Showground into town
- ·only a kilometre to walk from the Bellingen Post Office to the Old Butter Factory
- less than 400m to walk from the Dorrigo Post Office to the Dorrigo Swim Centre
- 500m to walk from Urunga Public School to the sportsground on Morgo Street, and
- less than 4km to cycle from Hungry Head Headland into the Urunga CBD.
By choosing active transport for your next short trip you will be helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and local air pollution while staying healthy at the same time. For some local routes check out the Bellingen Bike Map(PDF, 3MB) .
You can also choose active transport for your commute to work. If you live within 10 kilometres of your workplace this equates to a 30-minute cycle journey. If you live within 3 kilometres of your workplace this equates to a 30-minute walk.
For some cycling inspiration check out these short videos from local legends Lowanna and Kevin Doye (owners of Kombu Wholefoods) who, instead of flying, chose to spend 18 months cycling from the UK to Australia!
