Waterwise Schools
Funded by Bellingen Shire Council and delivered in partnership with Cascade Environmental Education Centre, the Waterwise Schools Program is an important step in developing environmental stewardship in our young leaders. Students learn about the water cycle, how to conserve water and how to keep our rivers clean.
As part of their Waterwise certificate, students conduct a school water audit, identifying leaks and saving water. Pictured below is Orama Primary School receiving their Waterwise certificate. They identified two leaky taps and a 'dodgy flush button' saving approximately 10,512 litres of water a year – proving that even small actions can have a big impact.
The Waterwise Schools Program is available to all schools, both public and independent. It is linked to curriculum frameworks across all major learning areas, promotes active citizenship and encourages community involvement.
