The refurbishment of the Bellingen Memorial Hall continues to progress with demolition works to for the project being undertaken.  An important element of the project outside of the performance spaces relates to improving the community carpark at the rear of the site.

The revised carpark will make improvements to the carpark surface, line marking, street lighting and overall landscaping of the space to improve safety and amenity for the public and designed to provide a 36% increase in parking over and above the existing layout.  Once the carpark is completed it will support the needs of the surrounding businesses and recreational facilities together with the improved facilities within Bellingen Memorial Hall.

To accommodate these works it is necessary to remove some of the existing vegetation located on and surrounding the existing carpark including the removal of some larger tree species, many of which are identified as either exotic or not endemic to the region.  Staff have worked to retain several trees on the site identified by the arborist as having high retention value.  Council is partnering with Bellingen Urban Landcare to plant native species along Cemetery Creek to deliver improved habitat and biodiversity outcomes for our community.
