In accordance with best practice and regulations, all suggested names should be:
-
Unique and not duplicated within a 30-kilometre radius, regardless of road type.
-
Written in plain English or a recognised format of local Indigenous languages.
-
Easy to spell and pronounce.
-
Free from punctuation marks, diacritical marks, apostrophes, numerical or Roman numbers, initials, or the word 'The' at the beginning. Names are permitted to have the prefix ‘Mc’ or ‘Mac’ without spaces.
Once the community’s suggestions have been gathered, a compiled list of potential names will undergo assessment and approval by the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales. Names that receive approval will then be considered for formal adoption by Council.
