About the Project

The Kalang Road Embankment Restoration project aims at restoring the function of flood-damaged road embankment to pre-disaster condition. These urgent repairs are for embankment slips and other damages that in many cases could cause a serious failure and the have potential for extended closures of Kalang Road.

Project Scope

Stage 1

Rockfill and Regrading Package (Stage 1) – works major works all now completed, four more small sites due for completion by December 2024

These works include, rockfill embankment strengthening of flood damaged slips and regarding of damaged embankment slopes to prevent future collapse of the embankments above and below the roadway.

Soil Nails Package 1 – major works all now completed, finishing works due for completion by October 2024

These works include drilling and grouting of soil nails into unstable embankment slopes to provide reinforcement, a layer of 'shotcrete' concrete is then sprayed over steel reinforcement.

Stage 2

Soldier Pile Walls Package – works to commence from November 2024 and to be completed by mid 2025 

These works are for major slips that require a soldier pile retaining wall to support the embankment, there are 5 locations on Kalang Road where these will be constructed.

Soil Nails Package 2 - 2 more sites, works are due to commence in April 2025 and are due for completion in August 2025.
