This year Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival is adding another free event for our younger community members to be held in the library on Thursday 6th June at 11am. Rebecca Timmis is the award-winning Australian author and illustrator who loves to write wild and magical adventures and paint digital pictures.

With the success of last year’s event, Bellingen Shire Council has collaborated with Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival to bring this opportunity to the Bellingen Branch, targeting the home-school groups in the Shire. This author talk is open to anyone and will particularly suit primary aged children.

Rebecca’s Mertales series follows the adventures of four plucky mermaids who discover their magical powers. These books are rich in themes of diversity, friendship and girl power. Rebecca’s latest series, Jawsome, are action packed graphic novels that are sure to engage with their interplay of text and illustrations. By day, Finley and his mates are ordinary shark kids but at nighttime they are secretly a super famous rock band called, Jawsome.

Rebecca expressed her enthusiasm about the launch of her new series, saying, "I am so excited about the Jawsome series. These books contain two stories in one and are packed with illustrations. I cant wait to share them during the Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival”

With extensive experience presenting to children, Rebecca loves seeing kids excited about books and writing. "Giggles and fun are guaranteed," she added.

Shire Librarian, Rowena Sierant, said, ‘All children and families are invited to attend this free event. Rebecca will teach the kids how to write and illustrate comedic stories by adding rib-tickling humour to their creations.’
