Bellingen Shire Council and the Dorrigo Community Hall Committee are proud to announce the reopening of the newly refurbished Dorrigo Community Hall on Friday 26 July 2024.

Centrally located in the main street, our much-loved Hall is set to become a vibrant centre for community connection and a wide-ranging variety of events.

The 'Welcome Back' reopening ceremony will include ribbon cutting, speeches from local dignitaries and guided tours of the new facilities. Attendees can enjoy refreshments while having the opportunity to network with community members, Hall Committee representatives and other local organisations.

"We are incredibly excited to reopen the Dorrigo Community Hall to the public" said Bellingen Shire Mayor Cr. Steve Allan. "This Hall will continue to serve as a cornerstone for our community providing a versatile space for a wide range of events and activities ".

Many months of work have updated the hall with a new sparkling semi-commercial kitchen, a newly carpeted function room, fresh and updated paint throughout, modern accessible toilet facilities and new air-conditioning that will enable the hall to be comfortable year round.

Installation of a PA system will provide higher definition sound from instruments, voices and acoustic sources. Additionally, a hearing loop will enable those wearing hearing aids to hear clearly wherever they are in the hall.

The Hall has been refurbished to serve an important role in disasters as a Recovery Centre. Funding for the refurbishment was made possible by joint funding of the Australian and NSW Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, provided in the aftermath of the 2019-2020 bushfires to improve community resilience in future disasters and to aid recovery. After a disaster that impacts the Dorrigo Plateau, the Hall will be a safe place where community can gather and access help.

The Hall will be suitable for a wide range of activities including meetings, exhibitions, school formals, wedding receptions, music events, dancing and other classes.

"The reopening of the Dorrigo Community Hall is a significant achievement for our organisation" said Cr. Joanne Cook, chair of the Hall Committee.  "We are committed to enhancing Dorrigo's infrastructure and look forward to seeing the positive impact this facility will have".

The Hall is part of Bellingen Shire Council's broader initiative to improve facilities and services for the community and improve our resilience to disasters across the Shire.

Dorrigo Community Hall re-opening event will be held on Friday 26 July at 10am, with the official ceremony taking place at 10:30am and tours of the new facilities available until 2pm.
