Council Adopts Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026
Published on 23 June 2022
Council resolved at its Ordinary Meeting held on Wednesday 22 June 2022 to adopt the Bellingen Shire Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026. The Disability Inclusion Regulation 2014 states that all councils are required to have a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) in place by 1 July 2022. The DIAP outlines Council’s 2022-2026 plans to make life easier for people living with disability. It explains the steps that Council, in conjunction with our broader community will take to ensure everyone has access to services, facilities, events and information.
The development of the new Bellingen Shire Council Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026 focused on increased consultation and involvement of people who identify as having a disability. The feedback we received via our community and staff surveys, focus group meetings and submissions have been incorporated into the adopted Plan. It has four key focus areas:
- promoting Positive Community Attitudes and Behaviours
- Creating Liveable Communities
- Supporting Access to Meaningful Employment
- Improving Access to Services through Systems and Processes
Continued consultation and involvement of people with disability will also be a focus of the implementation phase. If you are a person living with disability, family member, carer, service provider, business or if you are interested in creating an environment that is accessible and inclusive, we want to hear from you.
We would like to thank all community members who have contributed their feedback to make our Shire more inclusive and accessible.
