Council awarded Public Library Infrastructure Grant
Published on 01 August 2024
Bellingen Shire Council is one of 28 local councils set to receive a grant from the NSW Government as a part of the Public Library Infrastructure Grants program.
The State Government recently announced $6 million in funding for libraries across NSW as a part of this program, which aims to extend and improve public library buildings, spaces and information technology for NSW communities.
Council has been approved for a grant of $120,289 for our project, Restructure our Past, Renew our Future.
These funds will go towards aspects of the Dorrigo Library interior. The work will include new shelving on castors to provide flexible spacing, flooring, painting, public access PCs and furniture.
The Dorrigo community recognises the library as a focal point for people of all ages and all abilities. The proposed layout will enhance accessibility and feature additional spaces for increased numbers to attend activities, read, conduct workshops, and host community events.
“We are incredibly grateful to be a recipient of this grant funding from the NSW Government,” Mayor Cr. Steve Allan said.
“This is a great result for our community, adding to the upgrades and extensions currently under construction at the Dorrigo Library, which will no doubt bring a more vibrant and accessible space for all residents.
“We would also like to extend our gratitude to the community members who provided letters of support for this grant application.”
Community members are encouraged to keep an eye on Council’s website and social media channels for further updates on the opening of the renovated and extended Dorrigo Library.
