Exciting Events Still to Come This Summer at Bellingen Shire Libraries
Published on 24 January 2025
January has been a lively month across our Bellingen Shire libraries, filled with creativity, learning, and community engagement.
With a mix of school holiday activities, storytime sessions, and special displays, there's been something for everyone.
“With activities like Zombie Barbies and birdhouse painting, we've seen a fantastic turnout this holiday period,” said Maxine Compton, Group Leader - Community Partnerships. “It’s been heartwarming to see parents, grandparents, and children working together, sharing stories, and being part of our creative community.”
And the fun doesn’t stop here—there are still plenty of events to look forward to!
Storytime is held at 10:30am every Tuesday morning at both Bellingen and Urunga Libraries, and 10:30am Wednesday mornings at the Dorrigo Library. These sessions are a wonderful way to introduce young children to the joys of reading. No bookings are required for these sessions.
In addition, free school holiday craft packs are available to collect at the three libraries throughout the school holidays. The take home craft kits are an excellent way to foster creativity throughout the holiday period.
Looking ahead to February, the Film Club returns. The first screening will be held in the large meeting room at the Dorrigo Library with the showing of WHINA on 7 February at 2pm. Following this, films will be shown at the Bellingen Library on 14 February and at the Urunga Library on 21 February. Seats are limited so be sure to book in advance by contacting your local library branch.
One of the most popular events, Tech Savvy Seniors (TSS) also makes its return in February. This initiative offers free technology training to seniors, helping them confidently navigate the digital world. There are eight sessions that will run every two weeks at each Library, with the Bellingen sessions starting on Thursday, 6 February, Urunga sessions from Wednesday, 12 February, and Dorrigo from Thursday, 27 February.
Library Lovers Day is coming soon! Come and have a ‘BLIND date” with a book and also enter our competition for the most borrowed Historical Romance Novel from the last 12 months.
“All of these events are part of our commitment to making our libraries vibrant community hubs,” Maxine Compton, Group Leader - Community Partnerships added. “Our libraries are dynamic places with something for everyone to enjoy.”
All library events are free, making them an accessible way to connect with the community and enjoy enriching experiences.
