Recent reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change tell us global carbon emissions are increasing rapidly and the window to keep global warming to below 1.5°C and to avert devastating climate impacts is rapidly closing.

In March 2019, Bellingen Shire Council joined a global movement when it declared a climate emergency. Council’s response to the emergency is set out in the Climate Emergency Response Framework (CERF) and Corporate Carbon Plan.

Council also made a strong commitment to work together with our community to develop a plan to reduce our community’s carbon emissions and to support community climate adaptation.

We’ve been working with our community to develop the Community Climate Action Plan .The Plan proposes ambitious actions developed by our community and sets a clear pathway to guide our transition to a net zero world and to build community resilience to the changing climate.

To get involved, contact the project leaders in the Plan, or be in touch with Council’s Sustainability Officer for more information.
