School’s Out Sessions presents Jayess + special guests

My main motivation is to show young people that they can chase their dreams.” So says Coffs Coast rapper Jayess, ahead of his show at Studio BMH on Friday 27 September. “And don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t.”
The 23 year-old, who counts among his influences American rappers Hopsin and J. Cole, along with Australian rapper Kerser, has made a name for himself by delivering real and raw music that his peers can relate to and, having gigged a fair bit around these parts, knows how to bring high energy to the stage.
That’s why Bellingen Memorial Hall Venue Coordinator, Phil Nicholas, was inspired to work with Jarrah a.k.a. Jayess to program the latest instalment of School’s Out Sessions, a youth music mentoring program that began earlier this year.
Young people who voluntarily join the program are mentored by the Venue Coordinator and other community members involved in the music industry. They are supported to practice and pick up skills in technical production, programming, promotion and event coordination.
Active participants even have the opportunity to share in event profit, including revenue generated by the refreshments kiosk, thus learning basic business skills.
“This third edition of School’s Out Sessions follows two successful punk rock nights and this time, in focusing on RnB, hip-hop and rap we have the opportunity to showcase music genres that don’t get as much exposure in venues such as the pub circuit,” said Phil.
The line-up has been co-curated with Jayess and will feature special guest rappers alongside two fresh Coffs Coast artists debuting their first productions: C-19 is an innovative hip-hop artist known for his sharp lyrical prowess and socially conscious messages, while DUB-L is a dynamic rapper and producer with a knack for creating infectious hooks and deep, resonant beats.
Tickets are $20 in advance and is an all-ages event.
